The Sens Foundation  is the charitable organization of the NHL team, The Ottawa Senators. The organization was founded in 1998 to provide financial support to registered charitable organizations whose programs focus on improving quality of life for children and youth in Eastern Ontario and Western Quebec. The Sens Foundation is supported through event fundraising, corporate sponsorships and private donations. Since its inception, the Sens Foundation has raised over $65 Million to support community initiatives.

There are many community events throughout the year that support the Sens Foundation. The largest yearly fundraising event, Walk, Roll, Run for Rogers House, was held on Sunday, June 17, 2012 at the Scotia Bank Place. The over 800 participants in the event participated in a variety of family activities including a Tot Trot, 2K and 5K run/walks. This year’s event raised over $160,000 for Roger’s House. Senator’s forward, Chris Neil also joined in the festivities and signed autographs. The event proceeds go to Roger’s House, which is a pediatric palliative care home on the ground of CHEO.  This 8 bedroom facility helps patients with life-limiting illnesses and their families. The Sens Foundation provides Rogers House with nearly 25% of its yearly operating budget.

The Sens Foundation was also a major force behind the building of the Rink of Dreams in downtown Ottawa. This 12,500 foot refrigerated outdoor ice rink was unveiled before the 2012 All-Star NHL Hockey Game, which was hosted by the City of Ottawa. You can visit the Rink of Dreams in front of Ottawa City Hall in the Marion Dewar Plaza. The rink will allow free public skating from November through March and then revert back to the community plaza during the spring and summer months.
